How does the app calculate the date of my next donation?
DoAção is based on established public health guidelines and technical regulations:
- Whole Blood: Men can donate with a minimum interval of 60 days (maximum of 4 donations per year); Women can donate with a minimum interval of 90 days (maximum of 3 donations per year).
- Platelets by Apheresis: Minimum interval of 48 hours (maximum of 24 donations per year).
- Plasma by Apheresis: Respects the configured protocol interval according to the specific procedure.
When you log a new donation, the app automatically adds this waiting period to the donation date and schedules a local notification on your device for when you become eligible again.
Are my health records stored in the cloud or on any external server?
No. DoAção is strictly built on a Local-First architecture. This means:
- Your blood type, Rh factor, date of birth, biological sex, and donation records are stored solely in your iPhone/iPad's secure sandbox storage.
- We do not operate external database servers collecting, storing, or monetizing your health information.
- No data is shared with insurance companies, data brokers, or advertising networks.
How do I edit or delete an incorrect donation record?
To manage your past donation records:
- Open the History tab in the app's bottom navigation bar.
- Tap on the specific donation you wish to adjust to view its details.
- Tap Edit to modify volume (mL), location, date, or notes, or swipe the card to the left to Delete.
When a donation is deleted, your eligibility calculation and accumulated volume statistics are instantly recalculated.
What should I do if a blood center in my city is not listed?
The application uses integrated iOS mapping services to discover blood centers and collection posts. If your preferred facility is not shown:
- You can manually type the name of the facility or blood center when logging a donation.
- You can submit a suggestion through the support form below with the name, address, and city of the blood center so we can catalog it in upcoming updates.
Does the app replace the clinical screening performed at the blood center?
Not at all. DoAção is strictly a personal organization and civic motivation tool.
It does not perform medical diagnoses and cannot guarantee that you will be accepted for donation. The ultimate clinical determination belongs solely to the healthcare and screening staff at the blood center on the day of donation (evaluating hemoglobin/hematocrit levels, blood pressure, travel history, recent medications, etc.).
How do eligibility notifications and reminders work?
When you grant the notification permission, the app schedules a reminder locally within the iOS system.
As soon as the regulatory interval (e.g. 60 or 90 days) concludes, you will receive a notification encouraging you to schedule your next donation. You can customize or disable these notifications anytime in your iPhone Settings.
What are the general basic requirements for donating blood?
General donor criteria typically include:
- Being in good general health.
- Being between 16 and 69 years old (donors under 18 require formal parental or guardian consent).
- Weighing at least 50 kg (110 lbs).
- Being well-rested (having slept at least 6 hours in the last 24h).
- Being properly nourished (avoid fatty foods 4 hours prior).
- Presenting an official government-issued photo ID.
How do I backup or transfer my data when switching iPhones?
Because data is stored inside the app's local sandbox, it is automatically included in encrypted iOS backups (via iCloud Backup or encrypted local Mac/Finder/iTunes backups).
When restoring a new iPhone from a backup of your previous device, your DoAção records will be restored seamlessly with full privacy and confidentiality.
How does the AI Assistant with Foundation Models work?
DoAção features an intelligent assistant powered by state-of-the-art Foundation Models to clarify questions regarding blood donation:
- Informative Guidance: Clarify common questions about donation intervals, recent surgeries, medications, international travel, or waiting periods.
- Privacy First: Inquiries are strictly confidential and never used for advertising or user tracking.
- Preparation Tips: Practical advice on hydration, light meals, and rest before and after donating.
Important: The assistant is strictly informative and does not substitute for in-person clinical screening by blood bank professionals.
How does the friends system work and how do I "nudge" someone?
The friends network encourages a continuous donation habit through mutual community support:
- Network Tracking: Add friends who also donate to see when their waiting interval finishes and they become eligible again.
- Nudge (Friendly Reminder): When a friend is ready to donate, send a friendly in-app "nudge" reminding and motivating them to visit a blood bank.
- Collective Impact: Turn blood donation into a shared mission between friends and colleagues.
